Fair Housing Tester

Make an impact in your community while helping advance fair housing!

The Fair Housing Center of Southwest Michigan is seeking Fair Housing Testers to assist with our efforts to identify differences in how people are treated when seeking housing. Testers are trained, part-time employees who pose as prospective renters or homebuyers, follow assigned scenarios, and objectively document their experiences. Assignments may involve phone, online, or in-person housing inquiries throughout our nine-county Southwest Michigan service area.

This is a flexible, on-call opportunity that is ideal for someone looking for supplemental income while supporting civil rights in their community. Testers must be at least 18, have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license, be available for local travel, and have some flexible daytime availability. Strong attention to detail, reliability, objectivity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.

Testers are paid $18/hour plus mileage reimbursement. Assignments are offered based on program needs and availability, and there is no guaranteed minimum number of hours.
