    Description

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child

We provide one on one tutoring, nutrition and enrichment services for children in grades 1-8. Our program runs from mid-September through mid-May. While we will be in-person in Fall 2025, we will continue to offer some virtual tutoring on an as-needed basis as well.

    FunDay MONDAYS:

FunDay Mondays are experiential, hands-on learning options for students, with facilitation of art, STEM, experiments in environmental determinants of health, athletics and 4-H activities on successive Mondays each month in October, November, and January - April. Volunteers needed to assist our facilitators, 4:00 - 5:30 PM, with projects and to build relationships!

    TUTORING TUESDAY - THURSDAY:

+ Pre-program consists of the 3:30 - 4:30 hour in which activities/snack are prepared, and students are invited in for quiet games, puzzles, conversations -- or for blowing off steam in the gym!

+ Our tutoring hour runs from 4:30 - 5:30, with 1:1 student/mentor time for homework and enrichment. Supplementary curricula and activities are provided to support tutors. Tutoring services are delivered in a large classroom setting with individual study carrels.

+ The nutrition portion of our program, 5:00 - 6:00, is comprised of a sit-down dinner prepared on-site for our students and involves simple cooking, set-up/clean-up as well as table hosting for our students - guiding conversation and encouraging social bonds.

Volunteers can select work in one or several areas above on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday -- offering flexibility for hours/week of commitment. Volunteers undergo a background check and receive an orientation before beginning.
