    Description

Microsoft Office Instructors and Assistants Needed!

    Session Description

Volunteers support adult learners as they build foundational skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for everyday, school, and workplace use. Sessions introduce participants to how Microsoft Office programs work, how to access them, and how to confidently navigate shared features such as the Ribbon, tabs, command groups, and menus.

Depending on the class focus, learners practice core skills such as:

    • Creating and editing documents in Word
    • Organizing information and performing basic calculations in Excel
    • Designing simple presentations in PowerPoint

Classes emphasize hands-on learning, with step-by-step demonstrations followed by guided practice. Volunteers and teaching assistants help learners apply skills like entering and editing content, formatting text or cells, organizing information clearly, and using tools that improve readability and presentation.

Throughout each session, volunteers provide encouragement, answer questions, and offer one-on-one assistance as learners gain confidence using technology. By the end of the class, participants feel more comfortable navigating Microsoft Office programs and are better prepared to continue building digital skills for work and daily life.

    Role Responsibilities

    • Teach or assist in teaching essential Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint).
    • Support participants in navigating program interfaces, including the Ribbon, tabs, and tool groups.
    • Guide learners through hands-on activities such as document creation, data entry, formatting, or slide design.
    • Provide one-on-one assistance to participants who need additional support.
    • Help reinforce digital confidence, problem-solving, and independent learning.
    • Foster a welcoming, patient, and respectful classroom environment.
    • Review lesson materials and assist with classroom setup as needed.
    • Collaborate with fellow volunteers and staff to ensure smooth class sessions.

    Skills and Qualifications

Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint.

Basic understanding of computers and internet navigation.

Strong communication skills and patience with adult learners of varying digital comfort levels.

Willingness to support learners from diverse backgrounds.

Previous teaching, tutoring, or facilitation experience is helpful but not required.

Reliable commitment to teaching and/or assisting with the assigned Microsoft Office module sessions.
