Savo Island is seeking one volunteer Bingo Caller to support a monthly bingo activity for residents. This opportunity is being requested because residents have expressed interest in having bingo as a regular recreational activity. The volunteer will help create a fun, welcoming, and social environment by calling bingo numbers, assisting residents during the game, and supporting friendly participation.
Sessions will take place monthly on Fridays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The estimated volunteer shift is 1 hour. Scheduling is non-negotiable. A designated staff parking space will be available for volunteers during scheduled program times.
Reports to:
Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator
Goal of Position:
To provide residents with an enjoyable recreational activity that supports social connection, friendly competition, mental engagement, and community-building while helping reduce social isolation.
Specific Tasks:
- Set up the bingo space, including boards, calling tools, and prizes.
- Monitor attendance and ensure all participating residents sign the sign-in sheet.
- Teach residents how to play bingo if needed.
- Call bingo numbers clearly and loudly from the bingo machine.
- Write out bingo numbers if needed to support residents.
- Assist residents during the activity as needed.
- Mediate bingo games and confirm winning bingo cards.
- Allow each winner to choose one prize.
- Clean and sanitize the work area as needed.
- Remain friendly, patient, and supportive when interacting with residents.
Qualifications:
Physical/Age Requirements:
- Able to lift and carry the bingo set and prizes to and from storage and the community room.
- Able to speak clearly and loudly during the activity.
Skills/Education/Experience:
- Knowledge of bingo or willingness to learn.
- Enjoys playing games and engaging with others.
- Friendly, patient, dependable, and open-minded.
- Interest in working with seniors.
- Able to support residents with limited English skills by repeating numbers or writing them down when needed.
- Prior experience leading games, activities, or group programs is helpful but not required.
