Volunteer Attorney / Legal Advisor

About the Role

Cobb Bethel Cemetery Preservation is looking for a qualified Georgia attorney to serve as a volunteer legal advisor. In this role, you will provide ongoing legal guidance as our preservation work develops, helping us navigate general operational, policy, and organizational legal matters.

About Our Organization

Cobb Bethel Cemetery Preservation is leading a descendant-led effort to document, protect, and preserve the Cobb Bethel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, a historic Black burial ground connected to generations of families in the Cobb Bethel-Ben Hill community.

While our preservation work involves extensive historical, deed, and property documentation, this volunteer role focuses on broader organizational legal support and guidance as our framework grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Review organizational agreements, documents, and policies as needed.
• Provide legal guidance regarding general operations, compliance, and legal risks.
• Help address general legal questions and operational matters as the project develops.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) and an active license to practice law in the state of Georgia.
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Background or familiarity suited to general organizational, contract, or operational legal support.
• A strong interest in community-based work, historic preservation, or equity.
