“Foreign Language Development and Support Initiative” is a long-running

governmental program in the Republic of Georgia that has been in operation for 16

years. It is fully administered by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of

Georgia (MES) and the National Center for Teacher Professional Development

(TPDC).

The goal of the Initiative is to support the learning and teaching process of foreign

languages through the continuous professional development of teachers, the

introduction of a variety of pedagogical methods and the practical application of foreign

language teaching in the learning process. Also to promote foreign language fluency in

Georgian public schools, as well as amongst the local teachers.

The program has attracted thousands of volunteer teachers from many different

countries, including the United States of America, Canada, Britain, Australia, New

Zealand, South Africa, France, Germany, Italy, China and others.
