Join the North Carolina Zoo’s Volunteer Services Program and become part of a dynamic community of individuals who collectively contribute more than 43,000 hours of service each year in support of the Zoo’s mission.
Volunteers play a vital role at the North Carolina Zoo in enhancing the work of staff by sharing their time, talents, and skills, helping us expand programs, serve guests, and deepen our impact.
Volunteer opportunities are available for adults and youth ages 12 and up (youth must volunteer with a parent or legal guardian). The Zoo offers entry-level volunteer positions in animal care, guest services, horticulture, education & conservation, research, and guest engagement, with opportunities to grow into more specialized roles over time.
No experience? No problem. Our dedicated staff provide all the training, tools, and ongoing support you need to succeed and feel confident in your role. If you have time, curiosity, and a passion for inspiring others and connecting people to the natural world, we would love to have you on our team.
Please check our website for detailed requirements for each assignment and how to apply. All volunteers are required to serve at least two shifts a month during the typical volunteer season (March-November) in their approved assignment. However, there are some volunteer offerings that are year-round.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
