    Description

Do you want to help restore our local ecosystems? Then this project is for you! Join Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to remove invasive honeysuckle across Brookside Park. We will remove honeysuckle with handsaws and will apply herbicide to the remaining stump. Removing harmful invasive species will help prevent riverbank erosion, improve access to the waterway, and improve water quality. We will begin project instruction at 9:05am at the latest, so please be sure to find parking ahead of the start time.

Safety: We highly recommend wearing weather-appropriate clothing and since we will be working on a slope, we require that volunteers wear closed-toed, sturdy shoes. Volunteers also must wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toed shoes in order to apply herbicide. We always recommend bringing a reusable bottle for water but we will have disposable cups available if needed. KIB will provide all supplies, such as litter grabbers, gloves, and hand saws.

Parking + Facilities: Parking is located at the Brookside Tennis Courts located at 3500 Brookside Pkwy S Dr. The Brookside Community Center opens at 10am and has restrooms inside. Portalets are located in the park, and public restrooms can also be found on Sherman Dr.

Transportation Information: Bus number 11 stop at Brookside Pkwy S Dr & Ewing St and is a 4 minute walk to the project site. Click here to plan your trip with IndyGo

    • While we love group attendance at volunteer projects, all participants in a group must be registered individually.

If you should need to cancel your registration for any reason, please use this link.

This project is in alignment with Weed Wrangle Indiana’s efforts to control invasive species across Indiana, Weed Wrangles are volunteer events hosted nationwide to control the invasive plants that are negatively impacting our public parks, green spaces and natural areas.
