    Description

    About Migrant Support Collective

Migrant Support Collective (MSC) is a fiscally sponsored project of Organized Communities Against Deportations (OCAD). MSC runs direct service and advocacy programs dedicated to supporting the well-being of migrants detained in the United States. By advocating for the rights of those impacted by the immigration detention system, we strive towards a future of collective liberation, where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

MSC is based in Chicago, and operates on both a local and national level. Volunteers may be located anywhere, so long as they are consistently available for zoom meetings.

    Fundraising Volunteer Duties

We are seeking volunteers to assist with our Pride in Migration fundraising campaign in June. As a fundraising volunteer, your job is to give people an opportunity to support migrant and LGBTQ+ rights. Fundraising is an integral part of community organizing that allows for sustained work. Making a small donation is often the first way that people get involved in community organizing - by volunteering with MSC, you get to help people take that first step!

    Volunteers will:

    • Attend an orientation on either May 7 or May 17 where you will be introduced to MSC and learn the basics of fundraising
    • Ask 12-20 people in your personal network to make a donation to MSC (donations can be of any amount, even $5 makes a difference!)
    • No prior fundraising experience necessary – just a strong commitment to immigrant and LGBTQ+ rights!
    • Estimated time commitment in June: 5-10 hours

    Benefits

    • Hands-on training on fundraising: Fundraising skills are in high demand by progressive organizations, and very few people have practical training in it.
    • Verification of volunteer hours/activities for school credit if needed
    • There will also be future volunteer opportunities to participate in other campaigns and fundraising events, including art exhibitions in Fall 2026 (dates TBD).

    Inclusivity Statement

Migrant Support Collective is committed to building an organization that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. This includes diversity in languages spoken, countries of origin, immigration status, culture, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We encourage folks of all identities to join the collective.
