    Description

Protecting the endangered rhinos of Botswana

The project takes place in a conservation park for the endangered animals, mainly white and black rhinos. The park also hosts a wide range of animals including kudus, impalas, gemsboks, giraffes, and a variety of small animals and birds. It is defined by Kalahari Desert sands and quite a range of vegetation.

Due to the severe threat posed by poaching, rhino populations are under increasing pressure, and Khama has become a critical safe haven for their survival. To support and protect this population, the park has doubled its area and can now accommodate over 80 rhinos. Protection is provided by trained game rangers and military personnel forming part of an active anti-poaching unit.

The volunteers will assist in the maintenance of the footpaths, park fence, fire breaks and trails and will help in the day to day maintenance of the park. The volunteers will participate as a team in the whole duration of the workcamp. Volunteers are encouraged to share and exchange different cultural forms during the project.

    Project dates:

    • September 7 - September 18, 2026
    • November 30 - December 11, 2026
