This is a six-month assignment in Dakar, Senegal.
The assignment is part of the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Programme (PCV), which is being rolled out across around ten countries in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East over an eight-year period (2020–2028). The PCV aims to increase the involvement of local partners in inclusive, innovative and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality.
Oxfam’s role is to support these organisations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalised people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls and vulnerable and marginalised people at the heart of all its work.
Here is what your day-to-day work will look like:
Working closely with members of the Oxfam Senegal (OSEN) team and the organisation Action for Environmental Justice (AJE), the volunteer will be responsible for:
- Mobilise resources and support AJE in capacity building, analysis and proposal development, updating the funding strategy, and updating tools for monitoring proposals and ongoing projects.
- Collaborate with partner organisations and Oxfam in Senegal.
- Organise training workshops on resource mobilisation for AJE staff,
- Support AJE staff in identifying, evaluating and coordinating funding opportunities
- Develop a resource mobilisation action plan based on AJE’s new strategic plan;
- Support Oxfam’s fundraising efforts in Senegal by identifying funding opportunities on various specialist websites and assisting with the drafting of project proposals (concept notes and full proposals)
- Support the identification and collection of data on donors operating in Senegal and prepare guidance on how to contact them.
- Support Oxfam’s Business Development team in Senegal in implementing the funding strategy and participating in the activities of the Funding Task Force
- Contribute to development efforts in Canada during and after the assignment by helping to promote the programme, projects, partners, etc. through testimonials, personal stories, photos, quotes, etc.
For this assignment, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or hold permanent residence in Canada;
- Hold a university degree in social sciences or political science and/or a certificate in development project management;
- Have at least two (02) years’ experience in resource mobilisation or any other related field;
- Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to work within a multicultural team;
- Be fluent in spoken and written French; fluency in Wolof is an asset;
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office, Skype, Teams and Zoom;
- Experience in international development and/or climate change (an asset);
- Knowledge of the civil society context in Senegal;
- Be available to travel within Senegal;
