AccentCare Hospice Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice team. They have the opportunity to make a profound difference in the quality of life for individuals who are facing a terminal illness and their families.
Animal Assisted Therapy, as part of Direct Patient Care Volunteers enrich the lives of patients by providing emotional support and companionship for the patient and their families within their home residence or care facility.
Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteers share their and their pet's compassionate presence to brighten the lives of our patients and their families. Volunteers and their certified therapy animal can go on walks with mobile patients, provide compassionate listening while the patients pet the animal, and facilitate the patients playing with the animals in a safe manner.
Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteers, as a category of Direct Patient Care Volunteers who have direct patient contact, will need to complete AccentCare volunteer training, have valid identification, successfully pass a background check, and complete a TB Test/health assessment. Background checks and TB Tests/health assessments are paid for by Accentcare. The pet must be certified/registered through a accredited therapy animal association, provide liability insurance, and go through a temperament test.
Volunteers need to be 18 years or older.
