Description
Desired Schedule: A minimum of two shifts/month. Shifts will be available Monday - Friday as needed by the field trip schedule (usually between 10 AM - 2 PM).
Position Description: El Pueblo History Museum supports and hosts a multitude of educational programs for youths and adults. The programs Include school tours, adult group tours, and specialized trading post tours. As a tour guide at El Pueblo History Museum, you will bring to life the rich history of Pueblo.
Your primary role is to engage visitors with the historical and cultural significance of the trading post and/or the exhibits through an informative and interactive tour of the museum spaces. You will also get the chance to highlight the diverse mix of people who traded here in this region and the significant figures associated with its history. By joining our team as a tour guide, you will help visitors connect with the rich heritage of this significant site and foster a deeper appreciation for the cultural tapestry that shaped the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead guided tours of the adobe replica of the original El Pueblo Trading Post.
- Provide detailed information about the historical context, construction, and operation of the trading post.
- Share stories and anecdotes about notable figures such as Jim Beckworth and Teresita Sandoval.
- Explain the cultural interactions and exchanges that took place among Anglo, French, African-American trappers, Mexican settlers, and various Native American tribes.
- Facilitate hands-on activities that give visitors a practical understanding of the trading post’s mercantile past.
- Engage visitors, especially children, in interactive learning experiences.
- Assist in organizing and conducting special tours and activities during the summer months and for special occasions throughout the year.
Impact - Tour Guide volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with all manner of museum guests and will gain valuable experience in public speaking while learning about the unique history of the region.
