    Description

    Remote Volunteer Pen Pal

The Write a Friend program connects people who would enjoy exchanging letters and building meaningful friendships. Participants are matched based on shared interests and preferences, then communicate through handwritten letters, cards, or emails, depending on what works best for both people.

The goal is to create genuine, ongoing connections. Participants might share stories about their daily lives, hobbies, books they enjoy, or ask about each other's experiences, memories, and interests. Everyone has a unique story to tell, and letter writing provides a comfortable, low-pressure way to build meaningful friendships with someone new.

Letters can be as simple as a friendly greeting, a seasonal card, or a thoughtful message checking in. Over time, these small acts of kindness often grow into treasured friendships.

Joining Write a Friend is simple and flexible.

    Participants will:

    • Complete a short sign-up form with basic information and interests
    • Be matched with a compatible pen pal
    • Commit to sending letters on a regular basis (typically once or twice per month), or emails once a week.
    • Keep communication respectful, friendly, and appropriate

No special experience is required—just kindness, patience, and a willingness to brighten someone’s day.

Volunteer hour sign offs are available.

Each letter counts as 2 hours of volunteer time.

Each email counts as 1 hour of volunteer time.

Additional tasks are available for additional hours.
