    Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

    Location: 100% Remote

    Job Summary

    The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) provides strategic and operational leadership for the IT Web Development and IT Help Desk teams. This role is responsible for building and maintaining digital systems, overseeing technical workflows, ensuring policy compliance, developing team talent, and supporting both internal operations and external business client IT consulting needs. The CTO serves as the technology leader and primary trainer (“Professor”) for the IT department.

    Key Responsibilities

    Technology Leadership & Development

    • Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of websites, internal applications, portals, and automated workflows.
    • Oversee the IT Web Development team in building functional, secure, and user-friendly digital solutions.
    • Ensure all systems align with Apex branding, security standards, and operational needs.

    IT Help Desk Oversight

    • Provide leadership and direction for the IT Help Desk team.
    • Establish and monitor service standards, ticket resolution processes, and response times.
    • Ensure high-quality technical support is delivered to all Apex personnel.

    Cross-Department Collaboration

    • Partner with Department Heads to understand technology needs and deliver solutions that support Academy and operational goals.
    • Serve as the technology liaison across the organization.

    Business Client Consulting

    • Meet with business clients when IT services are requested.
    • Assess client technology needs and provide professional consulting recommendations and solutions.

    Policy, Compliance & Governance

    • Create, update, and enforce IT policies, procedures, and security standards.
    • Ensure all IT activities remain compliant with organizational and legal requirements.

    Team Management & Development

    • Hire, train, coach, and develop IT personnel.
    • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback.
    • Track team time, attendance, and time-off requests.
    • Act as the department’s primary trainer (“Professor”), delivering structured learning experiences.

    Training & Knowledge Sharing

    • Ensure IT team members participate in Orientation and present on behalf of the department when required.
    • Plan and lead weekly department training sessions.
    • Coordinate and deliver Apex-wide technology training as needed.

    Operational Excellence

    • Maintain visibility into project timelines, system performance, and team productivity.
    • Continuously improve processes to support efficiency, scalability, and reliability.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong background in IT leadership, web development, systems administration, or technical operations.
    • Experience managing remote teams and technical projects.
    • Ability to design workflows, portals, and digital tools.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Experience creating and enforcing technology policies.
    • Passion for mentoring and developing talent within a mission-driven environment.
