Hospice Volunteers Needed

Grace Healthcare Services welcomes your gifts of time and compassion. Whether you choose to work directly with patients and families or to volunteer in one of many other ways, you can make a profound difference in someone’s life, including your own. Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice team.

More information on our available volunteer opportunities is below!

HOME CARE AND FACILITY PATIENT VISITS

Many of our patients are feeling lonely and isolated and requesting companionship and friendly visits. Please consider visiting someone in your area! Vaccination requirements vary depending on facility.

PET THERAPY

We are seeking certified pet therapy teams to visit our patients in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Visits from therapy animals provide loving memories and give unconditional love, helping our patients feel connected to a larger world.

HOMEMADE GREETING, BIRTHDAY AND HOLIDAY CARDS

Do you like to draw or enjoy arts and crafts? Then creating greeting and birthday cards might be for you! Many of our patients are feeling lonely and isolated and would love to receive a handmade card for their birthday, or just to let them know you are thinking of them! We need cards for birthdays, holidays, and just general "thinking of you" cards! This is a great opportunity for all ages!

PEN PALS

Mail is a high point of the day for so many! Writing letters is a great way to get to know someone and offer socialization from afar. We will assign you to a patient who will enjoy receiving your letters and will love knowing that they are thought of.

MESSAGES TO A VETERAN

Much like Birthday and Greeting Cards. You can create messages for our Veteran’s thanking them for their service. This can be done by writing a letter or creating a card of thanks.

VETERAN VOLUNTEERS

Veteran volunteers are specially trained by Grace Healthcare Services to provide camaraderie and support to both patients and families alike. Many of our patients are veterans and can benefit from a friendly visit from someone who can share the common language and code of conduct of the military. Grace Healthcare services is a level 4 partner in the We Honor Veterans partnership with the Veterans Administration.

ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEERS

Our administrative volunteers provide help to the staff in our office, located in Edison, NJ, by assisting with data entry, addressing cards, organizing newsletters, collating manuals and other varied clerical duties

11 TH HOUR VOLUNTEERS

These specially trained volunteers sit at the bedside of Patients experiencing their final hours. These specifically trained volunteers help Grace Healthcare support its patients by bringing relief to family members who are unable to be present for the death of their loved one. Most importantly, they help to ensure patients that they are not alone.

KNITTING

Are you an avid knitter or love to crochet? We are always in need of lap blankets, teddy bears, shawls and other fun crochet items. Our patients enjoy receiving these colorful gifts of warmth. Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall. There is always a need to keep our loving patients warm and comfortable.

REIKI

We are seeking certified Reiki practitioners to volunteer their time to those in their community. Reiki can assist with pain management, anxiety, emotional release and much more and is a wonderful modality to use during end of life care.

BEREAVEMENT VOLUNTEERS

Offer support to the families and friends of patients who have passed. During the grieving process the bereavement volunteer can be a valuable resource, especially for those who lack a support network. Hospice training classes are required for Companionship and Complementary Volunteers They are free of charge and offered on an ongoing basis.

JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS

Consist of groups such as girl/boy scouts or young people who wish to honor our patients by making cards, posters, wall hangings and memory books.
