QARAVAN (former RUSA LGBTQ+) is looking for volunteers for Rainbow Connections

QARAVAN's initiative, Rainbow Connections, aims to facilitate connections between LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers and supportive members of the local LGBTQIA+ and allies' communities. Rainbow Connections is built on familiar

"buddy system" principles and aims to bridge the gap between the host society and new arrivals by pairing LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers with volunteers.

Volunteers facilitate social inclusion of new LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers through practicing English, orientation to New York City, facilitating personal and professional networking, generally welcoming and building confidence in new immigrants.

We are looking for volunteers who are established New Yorkers, speak English fluently, who can dedicate at least five hours a month communicating with a new LGBTQIA+ immigrant, virtually or in person, can help build English skills and professional networks, and provide companionship and encouragement.
