    Description

Help Shape the Next Generation of Women Leaders: Volunteer Interviewer Opportunity

Are you passionate about career equity and empowering women from marginalized communities? Alliance for Young Women and Girls is seeking dedicated volunteers to help us select our next cohort of ambitious professionals for our Entry-Level Career Training for Women program.

    Why Your Voice Matters

Our program is more than just a job training course; it is a launchpad for upward economic mobility. We serve women ages 18–35 who are often overlooked—including single mothers, survivors of domestic violence, foster youth, and first-generation students.

With 98% of our graduates transitioning into careers with professional advancement opportunities within six months, the stakes are high. Because we have limited space and a rigorous hybrid curriculum, we must ensure every applicant we accept is truly ready for this life-changing commitment. That is where you come in.

    Your Impact & Tangible Outcomes

As a Volunteer Interviewer, you aren't just checking boxes—you are a gatekeeper for opportunity. You will:

    • Determine Dedication: Assess the drive of applicants to handle high-level certifications in fields like Project Management, IT Support, and Data Analytics.
    • Provide Expert Assessment: Use our provided interview rubric and question set to evaluate candidates fairly.
    • Select for Success: Your feedback directly determines which applicants are accepted into our limited available spots, ensuring we find the "perfect fit" for our mission.

    Our Proven Track Record

You are joining an organization with a decade of proven impact. To date, our community has achieved:

    • 5,400+ hours of training and personal career coaching delivered to participants.
    • 20,800+ volunteer hours donated by professionals like you to fuel our mission.
    • 100% success rate in participants feeling confident in salary negotiation and interviewing.

    Recommended Qualifications

    • Professional Experience: Ideally 3+ years of experience in a professional work environment.
    • Hiring or Supervisory Experience: Familiarity with interviewing, onboarding, or managing employees is highly preferred.
    • Community Connection: A strong understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities in Los Angeles County or experience working with the populations served (e.g., TAY, survivors of DV, re-entry).
    • Commitment to Equity: A passion for workforce development and a belief in the potential of women from diverse, underrepresented backgrounds.

    Key Skillsets

    • Active Listening: The ability to listen deeply to an applicant’s story to identify transferable skills and genuine motivation beyond what is on their resume.
    • Objective Assessment: Skill in using a standardized rubric to minimize personal bias and ensure every applicant is evaluated fairly and consistently.
    • Effective Communication: The ability to articulate professional expectations clearly and provide a welcoming yet professional interview environment.
    • Emotional Intelligence: Sensitivity and empathy when engaging with participants who may have experienced trauma or significant life barriers.
    • Critical Thinking: The ability to discern an applicant’s "readiness" and dedication to completing a rigorous six-month hybrid program.
