    Description

After Midnight Literary Magazine seeks to amplify marginalized voices and create a literary space that prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility.

We are vehemently anti-generative AI and expect that anyone interested in joining us shares this sentiment.

    The Reader will:

    • Read submitted fiction, flash fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, book reviews, pedagogical pieces. We understand that each form is not everyone’s cup of tea, but we’re hoping that you enjoy reading at least three of these.
    • Read submitted pieces in a variety of genres
    • Evaluate which pieces are best suited for publication

    Skills we’re looking for:

    • A genuine love of reading and a voracious appetite for discussing literature
    • Critical thinking and critical writing
    • Organizational and communication skills
    • Comfortable using (or willing to learn how to use) email, Google Drive, and Discord

    Time commitment:

    • This volunteer position has a time commitment of at least one hour a week. It is very flexible and mostly asynchronous, since our staff is spread out around the world.
    • Our next reading period (for our second issue) is from Oct. 1 - Nov. 1, and we’d love to onboard someone who can commit to one hour a week in October, November, and December of this year. If you’re content in your role, we’d love to have you continue to work with us!

    Who we're looking for:

    • We expect that this position will be most attractive to graduate students who wish to pursue a career in media, research, publishing, and/ or library studies, but we welcome applications from folks of all walks of life.
    • Motivated undergraduate students are welcome to apply, and we are happy to work with you to satisfy internship requirements.

We ask that interested applicants submit through this Form. Please email us at submissions@aftermidnightlitmag.com if you have any questions. Applications close September 15th.
