ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Talent Acquisition/ Recruitment Specialist to join our volunteer team. In this role, you will play a key part in strengthening OpenGov Africa's people operations and helping build a thriving, mission-driven volunteer community. Working closely with the leadership and operations team, you will support the development and implementation of HR processes, contribute to volunteer recruitment and screening, coordinate onboarding activities, and help ensure that all contributors have a structured, engaging, and positive experience within the organization
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve HR policies, processes, and documentation aligned with OpenGov Africa's volunteer and remote-work model
- Lead volunteer recruitment efforts, including drafting job listings, coordinating screening, and managing application pipelines
- Design and oversee onboarding processes to ensure new volunteers are well-integrated, informed, and set up for success
- Maintain volunteer records and track contributor activity, roles, and contributions across the organization
- Support volunteer engagement and retention by identifying and addressing pain points, fostering inclusion, and recognizing contributions
- Coordinate performance check-ins, feedback processes, and progression pathways in line with OpenGov Africa's governance model
- Collaborate with team leads to understand workforce needs and proactively address gaps in capacity
- Help cultivate a values-driven, respectful, and high-performing volunteer culture
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of demonstrated experience in HR, people operations, talent acquisition, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, recruitment processes, and volunteer or remote team management
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to engage diverse contributors across different time zones
- Experience developing or refining HR documentation, policies, or onboarding materials
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and follow through on commitments
- Passion for civic technology, transparency, and open governance in Africa
- Experience working with nonprofit or social impact organizations is an added advantage
Commitment Details
- Position Type: Volunteer
- Time Commitment: 3 hours per day
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 12 PM WAT
- Duration: Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Location: Remote
- Expectations: Reliable participation, timely content delivery, and consistent communication
