Volunteer Tax Preparer

Tax preparers on the Prepare + Prosper volunteer team work one-on-one with customers to prepare their tax returns and help them claim all eligible tax benefits. Comprehensive training is provided, and preparers are supported by site managers and their fellow volunteers. As a tax preparer, you will:

• Interview customers to understand their complete tax situation
• Prepare federal and Minnesota tax returns using TaxSlayer software
• Provide stellar customer service to 2-3 customers per shift

How do I know I am a good fit? No experience required! If you are interested in economic justice, and you enjoy deep conversations and puzzles, this is the volunteer gig for you!

• Volunteers should also be proficient in English, comfortable using computers, and enjoy working in an ethnically and socio

economically diverse environment. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, Hmong, or Oromo are helpful but not required.

Commitment:

• Attend an info session in November to learn all about volunteering with P+P
• Complete 15 hours of basic tax training in December and/or January
• Volunteer one 4-hour shift per week from January 23 - April 15. (with flexibility when needed!)
