    Description

    Children of Bellevue is a non-profit organization founded in 1949 to initiate, fund, and develop special programs and to act as an advocate for children and their families within Bellevue Hospital Center. Children of Bellevue has a number of committees that help advise staff, oversee operations, raise money and plan for the future.

    The Board of Directors of Children of Bellevue (“CoB”) oversees the management of a ~$1.2 million budget annually, represents Children of Bellevue in the community, and helps raise discretionary funds to support the existing programs. We actively seek Board members who represent the diversity of New York City - socially, geographically, and economically. We also want Board members who can represent the concerns and interests of the communities we serve. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for board membership without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

    Expectations of Board Members

    Members of the Board should provide governance to the organization, represent it to the community and accept the ultimate legal authority for it. They should be prepared to:

    Fundraising and Community Development

    • Participate actively in fundraising helping raise a minimum of $10,000 over three years
    • Make a meaningful personal contribution to the Annual Appeal
    • Attend and promote the Toast to the Children
    • Provide at least 3 new contacts per year
    • Provide introductions to organizations with which they are affiliated

    Board Qualifications

    CoB seeks Board members with experience or skills in one or more of the following areas:

    • Deep philanthropic capacity, strong networks, and make an investment in our mission
    • Interest in the issues of health and wellness of children, including mental health; issues of child development
    • Advocacy, especially understanding of public policy process and government agencies that work on child health issues;
    • Law, including but not limited to nonprofit law and contracts;
    • Community outreach, including public relations and marketing for our services;
    • Board experience, emphasis on organizational development and strategic management;
    • Financial management, especially knowledge of accounting and financial control systems;
    • Fundraising for nonprofit corporations, including relationships with funding sources;
    • Ability to represent the organization to the community, especially communication skills;
    • An interest in serving.
    • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
