    Description

Do you have the hospice heart? Do you want to make a difference in an individual's most vulnerable time while gaining volunteer hours? Alamo Hospice might be the place for you! Our mission is, "No One Dies Alone, Afraid or In Pain." You can help us achieve this goal by changing the lives of those nearing their final stages of life.

    Responsibilities

Volunteers may provide companionship and socialization to people living with a serious illness who might be near the end of life. This may look like visiting a patient at their home or nursing home to provide conversation, play card games, listen to music and assist with arts and crafts. Volunteers may help family caregivers in a variety of ways such as light housekeeping and assisting with errands/shopping. Volunteers have the option of volunteering at our office in Boerne and Kerrville, Texas helping with administrative work such as answering phones and filing. Volunteers can also help and gain hours through our weekly welcome and tuck in calls to the patients and/or caregivers. These phone calls can be made at our office or from the volunteer's home.

    Qualifications

A mature individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with his/her own spirituality and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity. Successful completion of the hospice's volunteer training and orientation program. Previous volunteer experience may be helpful. Ability to work within the interdisciplinary group. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order. Demonstrates excellent observation, problem solving, verbal and written communications, skills per competency checklist. Shows ability to organize and prioritize workload independently. Volunteer options of working one to one with patients, from our Boerne or Kerrville office and/or from volunteer's home doing tuck in calls. Organization personnel are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor.
