DEPARTMENT: Emergency Department
OBJECTIVE: The ED Geriatric Support Volunteer will assist in supporting the unique needs of geriatric patients aged 65 and older during their Emergency Department visit. This role focuses on enhancing patient comfort, reducing anxiety, and promoting a positive experience for older adults.
MAJOR TASKS:
- Provide companionship and reassurance to geriatric patients.
- Assist with non-clinical needs such as offering blankets, water, or reading materials.
- Help patients navigate the ED environment (e.g., wayfinding, communication with staff).
- Support family members by answering general questions and directing them to appropriate resources.
- Observe and promptly report any concerns regarding patient comfort or safety to clinical staff.
DAYS & TIMES Variable Days/Shifts
NEEDED:
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have knowledge of and adherence to hospital policies concerning confidentiality, in relation to patients, physicians, and other staff members. Compassionate and patient-focused demeanor.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare team members.
Training provided; no prior medical experience required.
