    Description

    Position Title: Community Volunteer

    Reports To: VP of Programs and CPO

    Location: In-person (Community Distribution Site)

    Time Commitment: Flexible; one Saturday per month (Second Saturday), approximately 3-4 hours per event

    Position Summary

    The Community Volunteer will work directly with community members experiencing homelessness, helping to distribute food, clothing, toiletries, and tents during Women of Color on the Move (WOCOTM)'s Solidarity Saturday event, held on the second Saturday of every month. This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, dependable, and passionate about making a direct, hands-on impact in the fight against homelessness and food insecurity in our community.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with setup and breakdown of distribution stations (food, clothing, toiletries, and tents).
    • Distribute toiletries, tents, food, and other essential items directly to community members in a respectful and dignified manner.
    • Help organize and sort donated items prior to and during distribution.
    • Greet and check in participants, providing a warm and welcoming presence.
    • Support crowd flow and line management to ensure a smooth, orderly distribution process.
    • Communicate with fellow volunteers and community partners to ensure efficient service.
    • Help track quantities of items distributed and maintain accurate records.
    • Provide general support to staff and volunteers throughout the event.
    • Assist with light lifting and transport of supplies (boxes, bins, tents, etc.).

    Qualifications

    • A genuine sense of empathy and compassion for individuals experiencing homelessness.
    • Strong ability to work as part of a team.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Comfortable interacting directly with the public, including vulnerable populations.
    • Dependable, punctual, and committed to WOCOTM's mission.
    • Ability to stand, walk, and lift moderately (up to 25 lbs) during events.
    • Prior experience in community service or outreach (preferred but not required).

    Commitment Details

    • Time Commitment: Second Saturday of each month, approximately 3-4 hours per event.
    • Duration: A minimum 3-month commitment is encouraged.
    • Location: In-person at the community distribution site.
    • Training: Volunteers will receive a brief orientation and on-site guidance before each event.
    • Supervision: Direct support and check-ins from the Program Director or Coordinator during events.
