Do you have an hour or two per week to sit by the bedside of our Veteran patients, honor their service, or just be a compassionate presence? You can help them by listening to their stories, bringing meaning to the sacrifice they made to serve our country, and help them heal just by listening.
No prior hospice experience is necessary. We provide you with training and ongoing support.
Sutter Hospice is looking for military Veterans to join our We Honor Veterans Program, which recognizes the service and sacrifices of Veteran hospice patients. Volunteers visit hospice patients living in their homes, assisted living facilities or skilled nursing facilities to thank them for their service in our country's armed forces. These unique and profoundly meaningful visits are a way for us to honor patients and families for all they have given through their military service. Your presence creates space for Veterans at the end of life to share their experiences and connect with fellow Veterans who understand what it means to serve.
Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers, so experience is not required. It's a great opportunity to serve the community while learning new skills and enhancing existing ones.
Our requirements: Volunteers receive 10 hours of self-paced, online training - no hospice experience is necessary. Sutter will provide a health screening, background check and any necessary vaccinations. Volunteers work closely with Volunteer Program Coordinator as valued members of the multidisciplinary hospice team. You'll visit our patients that are vets living in Alameda County or West Contra Costa County
