    Description

Volunteer with RotaCare West Contra Costa Free Medical Clinic!

Where: San Pablo, CA (West Contra Costa County)

    Clinic Hours: Thursdays 4:45pm-8:30pm.

RotaCare Bay Area (RBA) is a nonprofit volunteer alliance of medical professionals, organizations and community members dedicated to providing free primary, quality healthcare services to uninsured families and individuals with limited ability to pay for medical care.

The RotaCare WCC Free Medical Clinic is seeking a Promotora/Community Health Worker to join our team. This role has been created to provide the necessary support, education, coordination, and resources for patients— with the goal of helping patient’s access healthcare services that can go beyond what our clinic can offer.

The Promotora/CHW is responsible for providing healthcare and insurance navigation for patients who utilize the RotaCare WCC Free Clinic. The primary focus of the Promotora/CHW will be to screen patient social needs and guide the appropriate referrals. Promotora/CHW services may include, but are not limited to: guiding patients through the healthcare system, assisting patients in completing their pre-enrollment/enrollment paperwork, following up to make sure patients establish a “medical home”, assisting patients in obtaining financial help for medical services, identifying other local resources when necessary, and helping patients access those resources.

    Who Can Be A Volunteer?

If you are motivated by the opportunity to become involved in your community, then this is a great environment for you. You don't need to travel overseas to "give-back" when you can volunteer right here in your own backyard! We are looking for volunteers that are open-minded and willing to work with medically underserved communities. Each opportunity is very straightforward and provides a vital role in our clinic so that we can see patients that have no other options for medical care. Training and medical malpractice insurance is provided. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in health or human services related field.
    • Bilingual Spanish speaker (additional languages are a plus).
    • Have health education or teaching experience.
    • Knowledge of Contra Costa County health and social services.

Who Am I Helping As A Volunteer?

The RotaCare WCC Free Medical Clinic is an urgent care clinic comprised of volunteer medical professionals and non-medical community members dedicated to providing free healthcare services to UNINSURED adults with acute or chronic medical conditions. Patients come to the clinic for acute issues such as respiratory ailments (asthma, allergies), infections, ear aches, sore throats, UTIs, headaches, and the like. Additionally, patients come in for chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid conditions.

The clinic’s medical services are donated by local healthcare professionals who give care without the expectation of payment. As a volunteer, you can continue this invaluable work that builds a healthier community and save lives.

Why Should I Become A Volunteer?

Volunteering with our clinic is easy and flexible, and the most rewarding experience among our volunteers is meeting the healthcare needs of patients with limited social and financial resources. Connecting with these patients from underserved and overlooked populations is one of the most positive parts of the volunteer experience at our clinic.
