Given the above background of MOCAP, the volunteer activities will include the following (but not exclude further activities):
Visiting Homes
The volunteers will visit the children in their respective foster or guardians` homes in order to show them love, care and appreciate the conditions in which they live.
Counseling Guardians
Many of the guardians are facing daunting challenges of upbringing these children. Most of them are elderly (grandmothers or grandfathers), unemployed and very poor. So upbringing these children is a very big challenge and whenever they look at these children, they remember their sons and daughters (now deceased) who in most cases were the bread-winners. These guardians therefore need counseling and advice on how they can raise income in order to sustain these orphans.
Aids Awareness
Some of the guardians don’t believe up to now that the parents of these children died because of Aids but that they were bewitched. Where you find a sick child, the guardian could be advised to take the child for an HIV-test where they can access free ARVs. The project coordinator is in touch with hospitals which offer these services and can be of great help in fixing appointments for them and helping them through the whole process.
Social Events
The volunteers can plan and execute social events for the children. These could include:
Organizing a visit to places of interest e.g. the zoo, botanical gardens or any other places of interest
Letter of intention to work at the project. international volunteers are highly recommended to apply
