Opportunity Overview

Writers Read is seeking a creative and dependable Video Production & Editing Volunteer who works strictly in DaVinci Resolve to help bring our recorded live events, author readings, and community programs to life for our digital audience.

Because our internal media pipeline and project archives are standardized on DaVinci Resolve, experience with DaVinci Resolve (Studio or Free version) is required so we can easily share project files (.drp), timelines, and media bins.

While we have active contributors handling short-form social snippets, we have a backlog of multi-camera live performances that need thoughtful, story-first editing. We are looking for someone who loves shaping raw event footage into polished full-show recordings, engaging individual author segments, dynamic sizzle reels, and promotional trailers.

While we maintain clear brand standards and visual guidelines, we encourage creative autonomy—you’ll have the freedom to select dynamic camera cuts, set the narrative rhythm, and craft a compelling viewer experience.

• Primary NLE: DaVinci Resolve (Required for timeline and project handoffs)
• Format: 100% remote-friendly, flexible, project-based (open to volunteers worldwide)
• Workflow: Asynchronous and milestone-driven. Hours fluctuate around our event calendar (ideal for someone looking for meaningful project bursts rather than rigid weekly obligations).
• Ideal Candidate: An editor or film/media student proficient in DaVinci Resolve who loves storytelling, has access to a reliable workstation, and wants to build a standout portfolio while supporting the literary arts.

What You’ll Do

Depending on active event releases and your creative interests, you will help with:

• Full-Show & Individual Segment Editing: Assemble recorded live events into complete multi-author show videos, as well as standalone edits for each featured writer’s piece inside DaVinci Resolve.
• Sizzle Reels & Trailers: Cut energetic, emotionally resonant sizzle videos and event trailers summarizing our shows, workshops, and seasonal programs for donors, partners, and public viewing.
• Packaging & Branding Assets: Integrate standard intros, animated lower thirds, title cards, and credits/outros aligned with our organization’s brand kit.
• Multi-Camera Cutting & Color / Audio Polish: Work with raw multi-angle event footage, selecting the best camera angles, balancing basic dialogue tracks in Fairlight, and applying clean color balance.
• Project Handoffs & Archiving: Share DaVinci Resolve project archives (.dra) or project files (.drp) and deliver clean, high-resolution master exports formatted for YouTube, our website, and archival storage.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

• Hands-on proficiency with DaVinci Resolve (Free or Studio version)—comfortable with the Edit page, multicam editing, Fairlight audio basics, and exporting.
• Reliable access to an editing workstation capable of handling HD/4K multi-cam video files.
• An intuitive sense of pacing, story structure, visual continuity, and audio leveling.
• Ability to work independently against agreed-upon project milestones.
• Passion for the arts, live performance, literature, and diverse storytelling.

Bonus Points (Not Required):

• Familiarity with Fusion for motion graphics/lower-thirds or Fairlight for audio dialogue cleanup.
• Experience editing multi-cam theater, stand-up, poetry, or live stage performances.

• 100% Asynchronous: Edit on your own schedule—early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
