    Description

We are looking for volunteers to help organize and deliver several hundred Thanksgiving meals to older adults in Somerville and Cambridge.

Your support is incredibly important in helping provide a holiday meal to folks who might otherwise be unable to enjoy one. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and spread some holiday joy!

If you’re interested in volunteering, please review the roles and steps below.

    Volunteer Roles

    Drivers:

Drivers use their own vehicle to pick up meals from our office and deliver them to clients’ homes throughout Somerville and Cambridge. Family members and friends are welcome to join you. Delivery routes typically take 2–3 hours to complete and pick up times are 9:30am, 10:00am and 10:30am.

    Runners:

Runners ride along with drivers to help with meal deliveries. Runners are often family members or friends of drivers.

    Logistics Volunteers:

Logistics volunteers arrive at 8:30am to help organize meals and load them into drivers’ vehicles at our Somerville office. You do not need a vehicle for this role.

    Steps to Volunteer

    1.Complete a volunteer application by October 9th

    • The application is required so that we can complete the necessary background check (CORI) and clear you to volunteer.
    • Please note that we may not be able to accommodate applications submitted after the deadline, as volunteer spots may fill up quickly.

2.Sign up for a volunteer time slot

    • Sign-up links will be sent around October 13th to everyone who has completed the volunteer application.
    • Anyone 18 or older will also need to complete a CORI form.

    3. Join the waitlist, if needed

    • We will most likely have a waitlist. Don’t be discouraged if you are initially placed on it—volunteers often move off the waitlist as additional referrals come in or as other volunteers become unavailable.

Thank you for helping us make Thanksgiving special for older adults in our community!
