About Steps to New Horizons
Steps to New Horizons Corp. (STNH) is a Philadelphia 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing financial literacy education to people who are building their financial lives from scratch: immigrants and newcomers to the U.S., people who have recently lost a spouse or partner and are managing finances alone for the first time, and young adults entering adult financial life. Our workshops are delivered in partnership with community organizations, resettlement agencies, and workforce development programs. Founded by Iryna Kirieieva — a former banker with 20 years of experience in Europe and a background as a financial advisor in the U.S. — STNH brings real-world expertise to people who need it most.
About This Role
We are recruiting a board member who will help STNH build the community relationships that are essential to our growth. This means opening doors — making warm introductions to organizations that serve our target population, advising on program design, and helping us be present in the right community networks. This is a hands-on board role for someone who is well-connected in the immigrant services, workforce development, or social services ecosystem — anywhere in the U.S.
What You Will Do
- Identify community organizations that serve STNH's target population and make warm introductions on behalf of the organization
- Attend partner meetings alongside or on behalf of the Executive Director to help open doors and establish credibility
- Advise on program design and workshop content, based on community knowledge and participant feedback
- Help STNH develop a framework for measuring and reporting program outcomes
- Connect STNH to relevant coalitions, city programs, and funding opportunities — including workforce development initiatives, financial empowerment programs, and community partnerships
- Represent STNH at community events, convenings, and coalition meetings where relevant
- Participate in quarterly board meetings and contribute to annual strategic planning
What We Are Looking For
- An existing network within immigrant services, workforce development, refugee resettlement, or social services
- Experience managing, growing, or advising community programs — you understand how programs scale
- The ability to open doors through relationships, not just advice — we need warm introductions, not just general guidance
- Comfort with outcomes measurement and program reporting
- Direct experience working with immigrants, refugees, or low-income communities
- Multilingual skills (Ukrainian, or Spanish) are a plus but not required
Term & Time Commitment
This is a 3-year volunteer board term, renewable by mutual agreement. Expected time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month, including quarterly board meetings, partner outreach, and occasional event representation.
What You Get
- The opportunity to shape a mission-driven organization from the ground up
- A voice in programmatic and strategic decisions
- Networking opportunities across the immigrant services, workforce development, and social services ecosystem
- Reference letter and LinkedIn recommendation from the Executive Director upon successful completion of term
