Wednesday, 12/2 - Pull ivy to improve forest health at Lake Stickney!
Details
Description
Please help the Healthy Forest Project at Lake Stickney Community Park, a 24.5-acre park that preserves vital habitat at the northern headwaters of Swamp Creek. The park contains diverse forest, wetland, stream, and open-water habitats for fish and wildlife. At this event, volunteers will remove ivy and blackberry which are invasive plant species that can threaten forest health. Ivy climbs up the sides of trees, adding extra weight that can cause the tree to fall and outcompeting the trees for water and other resources. Blackberries grow quickly, also outcompeting other plants. What results is a forest with fewer trees and very little diversity which does not provide high-quality habitat for wildlife.
Join us on Wednesday, December 2, 2026, from 12 - 3 PM as we work together to restore essential habitat at Lake Stickney. We'll begin with an educational walk through the park. Restoration professionals will be on-site to answer questions about plants, restoration practices, and conservation efforts.
This is a great opportunity to connect with nature, create community, and make a positive impact on our local environment. We look forward to seeing you there!
