    Description

Work on Climate (WoCl) is a leading non-profit focused on mobilizing humanity’s talent to build a regenerative, climate-positive economy.

You probably know us for our online community — the world’s largest climate career and action community — which has helped thousands of people find climate jobs, start companies, and build impactful networks. We’ve been featured in Fast Company, the New York Times, Wired, and more.

But our work is entering a new chapter.

We are shifting beyond helping individuals find climate jobs. We are now supporting professionals to organize, mobilize, and transform whole sectors and regions toward regenerative futures.

And to do that, we think mentorship is critical. This team runs the Expert Office Hours and SME programs. The goal of these programs is to help people achieve their goals, and help them build regenerative work to share knowledge, to foster interpersonal connections, and to demystify the idea of working in climate and the people in it.

We are looking for a new Team Lead to steer these efforts.

    Time commitment

10 hours/week consistently for the next 6+ months.

    What’s in it for me?

In addition to playing a critical role in enabling the climate talent transition, you will get to:

    • Stretch your skills and try out the best and latest community building strategies and program design
    • Collaborate with top-notch teammates passionate about climate
    • Build a strong climate network in your area of interest across the climate space
    • Add a great line on your resume! Employers know and respect us.

    What will I do?

In short, you will lead the Mentorship team to success! Though each Team Lead will bring their own unique flair to the role, the core responsibilities of the Team Lead are:

    • Managing the volunteer team members needed to accomplish your team’s quarterly objectives at a high bar of excellence
    • Overseeing the Expert Office hours program and other mentoring initiatives that you and your team dream up in the next 6 months
    • Measure success of Mentorship programs, communicate it to the Leadership team, and continue to improve the shared framework and program design

What skills and commitment do I need?

The most effective candidates for the Team Lead are those that have:

    • Experience managing projects and/or people – this is a management role
    • 5+ years of experience in program design and implementation, such as Learning and Development and/or community management
    • A “founder mindset” – doing whatever it takes and learning whatever skills are needed to accomplish the goals of the mentorship program.
    • Dependability and ability to roll up your sleeves. The natural tendency in volunteer projects is for things to slip through the cracks, and as Team Lead, the buck will stop at you.
    • Excellent individual and group communication skills, ability to work with and lead people of different work and communication styles

    Common Challenges

    • Managing a team of volunteers who have competing personal priorities.
    • Finding the right volunteers on an adequate timeline to reach success.
    • Ensuring that interactions between mentors and mentees are consistently high-quality.
    • Sourcing mentors and keeping them engaged so that all parties feel that the mentorship opportunity is a beneficial use of time
    • Measuring key outcomes and determining what success looks like

I’m interested! What do I do?

Yay! We’re excited to learn more about you. Please fill out this application form to tell us about your skills and interests in volunteering with our awesome team. If you are selected for an interview, our team will be in touch in 1-2 weeks.
