Volunteers can lead workshops, classes, or events based on their skills, interests, and passions. New opportunities are welcomed on a case-by-case basis, creating space for innovative and meaningful experiences. Programming could include small group discussions, storytelling and sharing circles, creative arts and crafts, games and friendly competitions, movement and wellness activities, mindfulness or relaxation practices, outdoor exploration, skill-sharing workshops, or other activities that encourage connection and community.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan and lead in-person programs, workshops, or activities for members in a welcoming and inclusive manner.
    • Adapt activities to meet the needs and comfort levels of members with diverse abilities and interests.
    • Encourage participation, engagement, and connection among members.
    • Communicate with staff about scheduling, resources, and any program-related needs.
    • Collaborate with staff to ensure programs align with Maybelle’s mission and values.
    • Offer feedback and suggestions for new program ideas based on member interests and participation.

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor.
    • Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
    • Comfortable engaging with diverse populations and honoring lived experiences.
    • Ability to plan and facilitate activities that are safe, inclusive, and enjoyable.
    • Creativity, flexibility, and willingness to experiment with new ideas.
    • Reliability and follow-through on scheduled sessions.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to sit, stand, or move around as needed to lead activities.
    • Ability to use basic tools or materials needed for programming (e.g., art supplies, games, movement props).
    • Ability to communicate verbally and visually with members.

    ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

    • Volunteers will receive an orientation to Maybelle Center and guidance on facilitating programs and engaging members.
    • Training will cover safety, accessibility, and best practices for creating inclusive and welcoming environments.
    • Orientation and training materials are available only in English at this time.
    • Ongoing support and supervision will be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator and program staff.
    • Orientation and training will occur before a volunteer’s first session.

    TIME COMMITMENT

    • One 1–3 hour session on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.
    • Flexible scheduling may be available based on volunteer availability and program needs.
    • A regular schedule is preferred to ensure consistency for members, but new programs and sessions may be scheduled as opportunities arise.

    ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

Programs take place in the Community Room, outdoor spaces, or other designated areas at Maybelle Center.
