    Description

For 15 years, The Honeycomb Project has reimagined youth volunteerism by empowering children ages 3–17 to play an active role in shaping their communities. Through family-centered programs, we engage kids and their parents in meaningful volunteer opportunities that address pressing issues—from food insecurity to climate action—while providing critical resources and support to local nonprofit partners.

Now, we’re bringing this model to the greater Washington, DC area and inviting families to join the movement.

    Get Involved

Are you ready for a leadership journey like no other? The Honeycomb Leadership Corps (HLC) is now accepting applications! This year-long program invites high school students AND their parents to step into leadership roles and volunteer side-by-side, making a lasting impact in their communities.

As part of HLC, you’ll commit to a year of service with Honeycomb and play an active role in supporting our programs. Parents and teens volunteer monthly together (a minimum of 8 projects throughout the year), assisting Project Leaders in running all aspects of our programs in the field (just like a camp counselor or teacher's assistant!) You'll help with everything from setting up supplies, teaching activities to fellow volunteers and mentoring younger kids. Along the way, you’ll gain behind-the-scenes insight into Honeycomb programs while spending quality time as a family and building your leadership skills.

    Who Can Apply

High school students ages 14–17 (must be enrolled in high school)

    Program Requirements

    • A student AND a parent/guardian must participate together
    • Mandatory orientation in April 15 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm (teens and parents)
    • HLC parent dinner on May 7 @ 6:30 pm (adults only)
    • Attend at least 8 Honeycomb volunteer projects in 2026, choosing opportunities that fit your interests and schedule
    • Participate in one additional leadership initiative — such as joining a panel, hosting a supply drive, or volunteering at a special event. These experiences are designed to build leadership skills, teamwork, and confidence.

    How to Apply

Parents and teens must submit separate applications. Don’t worry — this isn’t a college essay! Short, informal, heartfelt responses are perfect. Just be yourself.

Applications are open until April 4. Space is limited, and not all applicants will be accepted. Priority is given to teens already active in Honeycomb programs. Ideal applicants enjoy working with kids, thrive in team environments, and feel excited about Honeycomb’s mission.

If this leadership opportunity isn’t the right fit, we still warmly encourage teens and parents to join our regular public programs. There are always ways to get involved and make a difference.
