    Description

The Bridge at the Main is the Learning and Literacy Center for San Francisco Public Library.

We are actively looking for volunteer ESL Tutors who are willing to meet 1 to 2 hours once a week at a regularly scheduled time and place/format for a minimum of 6 months with an adult ESL Learner who wants to improve their English conversation, writing and reading skills.

The Tutor’s mission is to help the student achieve their personal goals and therefore organizes and conducts the tutoring sessions accordingly. Tutoring occurs at libraries or a mutually agreed upon location or format, like Zoom. You may continue tutoring the same student longer than 6 months, if mutually interested. Tutors must be at least 20 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. You are not required to know the student’s native language.

Patience, sensitivity, and flexibility are essential.

To sign up, please fill out the volunteer interest form at sfpl.org/esl. You will then receive links to a self-paced online training.
