About the Opportunity
CIANA is launching "Pathways to a Successful College Career", a new program funded by the New York City Civic Engagement Commission and chosen by community members to support immigrant youth and families focusing on Queens neighborhoods (11101, 11368, 11369).
We are seeking passionate Volunteer Mentors to guide bilingual high school students and their families through college applications and financial aid processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalized mentoring to students and families on college readiness.
- Assist with navigating college applications and financial aid
- Facilitate or support workshops in a bilingual setting (Spanish, Arabic, Bengali speakers strongly encouraged

Volunteer Mentor Responsibilities
(*) Assist program participants with personal statements, college applications, financial aid opportunities;
(*) Collaborate with the Project Manager and/or other CIANA staff/interns on workshop execution;
(*) Assist in tracking attendance, student needs and progress as needed.
(*) Provide support to small groups of students under the supervision of CIANA staff, including assistance with task completion, handouts, and material organization;
(*) Follow any and all policies, safety protocols, and confidentiality agreements while maintaining professional communication with students and families and CIANA staff
Qualifications/Requirements
(*) Volunteer must be 21 years or older;
(*) Teaching or tutoring experience is not required but is preferred;
(*) Proficiency using Zoom;
(*) Device capable of running Zoom/Google Meet; working camera and microphone;
(*) Proficiency in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Apps to help facilitate lessons and fill out time sheets (Gmail, Google Docs/Microsoft Word, Powerpoint/Google Slides, Google Sheets);
(*) Punctual, reliable and committed to meeting when scheduled;
(*) Motivated to help students achieve their goals;
(*) Competent in and respectful of cultural differences;
(*) Passionate about advancing immigrant rights and supporting first gen students;
Time Commitment
(*) Start day: We prefer you start by May/June
(*) Three months (May-July)
This is an in-person and virtual position which is open to U.S./Canada residents only.
