    Description

Nu Sass Productions is seeking energetic and civic-minded people to volunteer for its Board of Directors. Nu Sass is a DC nonprofit theater company dedicated to empowering marginalized genders in the arts through inclusive plays, musicals, burlesque, theater festivals, and bold performances. Prior professional or volunteer nonprofit experience is preferred but not required.

The primary responsibilities of the board are organizational governance, community outreach, and fundraising. The board meets a minimum of six times per year. Board members typically serve two-year terms on a calendar year basis; we are currently recruiting for 2027 through 2028. Board members are asked to donate or raise funds for Nu Sass on an annual "give or get" basis, and we are committed to working with prospective members and individual circumstances to meet that goal.

Don't have prior board experience? That's OK. We're looking for curious people willing to learn the ins and outs of leading in the arts, and we provide onboarding and training because we believe strongly in ongoing education and enrichment. The Nu Sass Board of Directors is committed to providing a safe and inclusive place where members can learn and grow while supporting our artists as they create and hone their craft.

Nominated for "Outstanding Emerging Theater Company" at the Helen Hayes Awards, Nu Sass has continued to grow since that recognition. In 2025, we staged 7 shows across 124 performances, reached 4,081 attendees, employed 100+ artists, and generated $164K in income including donations — and we're just getting started. Join us and help shape the next chapter of bold, inclusive DC theater. If interested, respond and we will provide you with a prospective board member package and application.
