About PromisePublic | Public Affairs, Advocacy & Engagement
PromisePublic is MAP’s public-facing division responsible for communications, advocacy, public engagement, and institutional voice. The division ensures that MAP communicates with clarity, integrity, and alignment—across all platforms, audiences, and stakeholders.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Communications Manager to centralize and align messaging across MAP’s communication ecosystem—including blog, podcast, campaigns, and public-facing materials.
This role ensures that all communications reflect a unified voice, consistent messaging, and strategic clarity—connecting storytelling, public engagement, and advocacy into one coherent system.
This is a coordination and strategy role that reduces fragmentation and strengthens organizational communication.
Key Responsibilities
Messaging Strategy & Alignment
- Develop and maintain a unified messaging framework across all platforms
- Ensure consistency in tone, language, and narrative across blog, podcast, and campaigns
- Align communications with MAP’s mission, values, and advocacy priorities
Content Coordination & Oversight
- Coordinate across PromisePress, PromisePod, and PromiseBrands to align content output
- Maintain a centralized content calendar and communication priorities
- Ensure timely and cohesive rollout of content and campaigns
Public Voice & External Communications
- Ensure consistency across external communications, including public statements, outreach, and campaigns
- Support development of messaging for partnerships, advocacy, and public engagement efforts
- Align messaging with policy and systems change initiatives
Quality & Consistency Assurance
- Review communications for clarity, consistency, and alignment
- Support teams in refining messaging and strengthening narrative cohesion
- Ensure communications reflect dignity-centered, trauma-informed language
Systems & Process Development
- Build and maintain systems for communication workflows and approvals
- Reduce duplication, gaps, and inconsistencies across teams
- Support documentation of messaging guidelines and standards
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with content, advocacy, partnerships, and program teams
- Align communication efforts with organizational priorities and timelines
- Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace
Qualifications
Required
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
- Experience in communications, public affairs, or content strategy
- Ability to manage multiple content streams and align messaging
- Strong organizational and strategic thinking skills
- Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values
Preferred
- Experience in nonprofit communications or public engagement
- Experience managing multi-channel communications (blog, podcast, campaigns)
- Familiarity with messaging frameworks and brand voice development
- Experience working across advocacy, program, or partnership teams
Commitment
- Volunteer role
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Hybrid / remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
