    Description

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” —Aesop

Thank you for stopping to read this post. I’m assuming that means that you’re exploring the idea of being a Hospice Volunteer. We can use you. Hospice Volunteers provide the extras that our service can give to those under our care. Extras like holding a hand, providing a smile, and simply just spending time with them in silence.

Hospice Volunteering affords you the opportunity to share and grow your kindness, by connecting you with patients who can benefit from your visits.

Ascend Hospice serves many facility patients, a lot of whom do not have family visiting. If you have time to give to others, please consider this way of helping. The majority are on our service for some life-ending dementia disease, but we support all patients with any kind of life-limiting disease: cancer, heart issues and COPD, too.

The secret in volunteering is that you will get back more than you give. It is a paradox. Hospice Volunteering is a way to be selfless, giving to others without expecting anything in return, but by sharing yourself with community members needing your time and compassion, making them feel good that you took the time to care, you end up feeling good too, knowing that you have made a difference for someone!

If you respond to this post, declaring your interest in serving in this way, the Volunteer Supervisor will email you more information about the onboarding process so you can make an informed decision about getting involved. In short, however, there is a training obligation, and some health checks (including the annual flu shot) and a background check needed before you can be assigned to visit patients.

You do need to be 18 years old, or older. You should have reliable transportation to be able to get to where our patients are. And, most importantly, you need to have time to give. If this is you, please reply to this post.
