Description
Nativity House Shelter is a 167-bed shelter serving adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness in Tacoma. The Hospitality Kitchen serves 3 meals per day, 365 days a year. Meal time "magic" is made possible by a team of volunteers who genuinely care about their unhoused neighbors.
Nativity House Shelter runs on "volunteer power". We are looking for "boots on the ground" support to help staff prepare and serve meals for residents staying at the shelter. If food is your love language, Nativity House Shelter is the place for you!
Shift times are flexible but revolve around fixed meal times
- Breakfast is served at 8:30 am
- Lunch is serve at 12 pm
- Dinner is served at 5:30 pm
Each meal is served for 1 full hour and we kindly ask volunteers to plan for about 30 minutes of clean up time after each meal.
The Basics:
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to serve onsite (no exceptions)
- Volunteers must pass a Washington State Patrol and NSOPW background check (processed by Catholic Community Services Staff at no cost to volunteers) to be eligible to serve.
- We ask for 3 personal references (we only need 2/3 responses)
- Volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation which covers volunteer policies and safety materials.
How to register to volunteer:
Please complete our online volunteer registration - http://bit.ly/VSregSW or email meganed@ccsww.org to request that a hard copy be mailed to you with a pre-stamped return envelope. You may also call 253-365-4111 to request that packet be mailed to you.
This is a volunteer opportunity that leaves you feeling good and has clear, tangible outcomes. It's all about making the world a better place one lunch tray at a time.
