    Description

    About Common Threads Project

Common Threads Project (CTP) is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides trauma healing to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) worldwide. Rooted in neuroscience and socio-cultural understanding of trauma, our model brings women together to sew their stories onto cloth while integrating best practices from trauma-informed therapy, bodywork, and psycho-education. We train local mental health providers to deliver culturally appropriate care, launch scalable interventions, and conduct efficacy research. CTP currently operates programs in the DC area, Ecuador, Nepal, New York, Nigeria, Ukraine, and Seattle.

    Role of the Board

The Board of Directors provides strategic oversight, fiduciary responsibility, and active support for CTP's mission. Board members serve as ambassadors, connectors, and thought partners — helping to expand the organization's reach, resources, and impact.

    Responsibilities

    • Attend quarterly board meetings (3 virtual, 1 in-person annually recommended)
    • Contribute actively in areas aligned with your expertise and skills
    • Make an annual financial contribution that is personally meaningful
    • Serve as an ambassador for CTP's mission in your professional and personal networks
    • Support fundraising efforts through personal connections, donor introductions, or direct solicitation as appropriate

    Time Commitment

    • Quarterly board meetings (approximately 4 per year)
    • Additional time varies by individual and area of contribution
    • We ask members to "lean in" where their skill set can make the greatest difference

    Term

    • 3-year term, renewable for up to 2 consecutive terms (6 years maximum)

    What We're Looking For

    Desired Qualities

    • Passion for trauma healing, women's rights, or global mental health

    • Integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to good governance
    • Comfort with a small, hands-on board culture
    • Cultural humility and sensitivity to the populations CTP serves

    Benefits of Service

    • Join a dedicated, mission-driven community doing meaningful global work
    • Build connections across international development, mental health, and human rights sectors
