    Description

Become a Hospice Companion Volunteer! Bring Comfort and Joy to those who Need It!

Hospice Companion Volunteers bring human connection back to patients that have lost access to their community because of their condition. It's a vital role and much needed, maybe even in your own neighborhood. Hospice patients live in a variety of settings, from residential homes, to apartments, to assisted living facilities, to nursing homes, but because of how serious their conditions are, they often can't go out to connect with friends and family like most of us can. That is where caring volunteers like you come in!

Just because someone is on hospice doesn't mean they are actively dying or that they have given up on life. They are just living with a very serious illness and they need a lot of help to have as good a quality of life as they can. As anyone could imagine, a good quality of life for people often includes time with friends and family, sharing memories, having good conversations, listening to music, or just talking about their day. For hospice patients, many of whom can't leave their home, or sometimes even their bed, the community has to come to them. You can be a part of that community that brightens their day and gives a little relief from the boredom, loneliness, and pain of their condition. It's a medicine given from one heart to another, no medical license required.

Our Companion Volunteers make those critical connections just by showing up ready to listen, to engage, to share, and to learn. We also make sure you are trained and prepared for being in a hospice patient's home. Hospice can be a scary word, but it doesn't have to be. There is so much joy to offer and receive in the final chapter of life, so think about inquiring today.
