Description
Position Requirements - The Shelter Coordinator facilitates the transfer of hounds from local shelters into the custody of BHRSC. The ideal candidate has the ability to check and monitor shelter websites and social media daily, and can send timely requests to shelters when hounds are available.
- Locates hounds in need of rescue through shelter web sites, animal adoption aggregation web sites, social media, and referrals from the public
- Checks shelter sites daily (mainly petharbor.com and petfinder.com) to locate bassets in need
- Communicates with shelters via phone and email
- Sets up transfer details with the BHRSC Transportation and Medical Coordinators
- Maintains the Shelter Log spreadsheet
- Provides information to shelters upon request
- Completes and maintains Rescue Partner documents for shelters
- Maintains a positive relationship with shelter personnel
- Is a member of the BROAD board (a message board for all basset rescues in California)
- Works with other rescues as needed
BHRSC is responsible for all shelters in Orange and Riverside Counties as well as Downey, Long Beach, SEACCA, and Pomona shelters in Los Angeles County, and Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, and Redlands shelters in San Bernardino County. If we have the resources and help is needed from other basset rescues we can assist elsewhere also.
