Stories Of Passion is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people through storytelling, emotional support, community engagement, and empowerment. We create safe spaces where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued while helping people connect with others who share similar experiences.

Our work includes storytelling initiatives, community workshops, podcast programming, and projects that promote cultural understanding, inclusion, and community building, including our upcoming Bridging the Divide: African & African American Dialogue and Community Building Initiative.

Position Summary

Stories Of Passion is seeking passionate, committed, and community-minded individuals to join our Board of Directors as Volunteer Board Members. Board members will help guide the organization's strategic direction, strengthen governance, support fundraising efforts, build community partnerships, and advance our mission.

We welcome candidates with diverse professional backgrounds, lived experiences, leadership abilities, and a genuine commitment to community service.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in board meetings and contribute to organizational decision-making.
• Support the development and implementation of the organization's strategic goals.
• Help identify grants, donors, sponsors, and fundraising opportunities.
• Build relationships with community organizations, businesses, foundations, and potential partners.
• Provide guidance on programs, community outreach, and organizational growth.
• Support initiatives such as Bridging the Divide and other storytelling and community-building programs.
• Review organizational progress, policies, budgets, and financial reports as appropriate.
• Uphold the organization's mission, values, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
• Serve as an ambassador for Stories Of Passion within the community.

Qualifications

• A genuine commitment to nonprofit service and community development.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Reliability, integrity, and willingness to participate in board activities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other board members and organizational leadership.
• Interest or experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, finance, social work, education, law, communications, marketing, public relations, community engagement, or program development is welcome.
• Previous board experience is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

• Participation in regularly scheduled board meetings.
• Preparation and review of relevant documents before meetings.
• Occasional committee work, fundraising activities, partnership outreach, or organizational events.
• A willingness to contribute time and professional expertise to support the organization's growth.

Compensation

This is an unpaid volunteer leadership position. Board members will not receive a salary or wages for their board service. Any authorized expense reimbursement will be handled in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable law.
