Become a Mentor with Restore Hope
Details
Description
Who We Are
Restore Hope is a Christian organization dedicated to walking alongside women experiencing homelessness. We believe in the power of connection and the inherent value of every individual. While we never impose our beliefs on those we serve, our mission is rooted in faith, and we seek volunteers who will reflect these values of compassion, integrity, and grace.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a Mentor, your primary role is to be a consistent, supportive presence. You won’t just be a "resource"—you’ll be a friend. Responsibilities include:
- Building Relationship: Establishing a one-on-one bond through regular, meaningful interaction.
- Practical Advocacy: Assisting mentees with navigating local resources, such as job searching, locating food security, and finding stable housing.
- Emotional Support: Providing encouragement and coaching to help women rebuild their self-esteem and persevere through systemic and personal challenges.
- Ongoing Communication: Meeting in person or virtual at least once a month (scheduled at your mutual convenience) and maintaining contact via a provided email and internet-based phone number.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking empathetic, reliable women who have a heart for advocacy and coaching. This role is an excellent fit for seniors, students pursuing psychology, social work, counseling, communications or a similar field (academic credit may be available), or any adult with a gift for mentorship.
- Gender Requirement: To ensure the comfort and propriety of the women we serve, we are exclusively seeking female volunteers.
- Values: Candidates should understand and reflect the Christian values of our organization in their interactions.
- Location: We welcome both local and remote volunteers (remote mentors focus on digital advocacy and phone-based support).
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude are essential.
Duration
Mentors are required to participate in the program for a minimum of 3 months but we are flexible for 1-5 hours a week.
Flexibility: While the commitment is long-term to ensure stability for our mentees, we offer high flexibility in how you and your mentee choose to schedule your time together.
