Maine Youth Thriving (MyT) is recruiting volunteers and/or new Board members to join us beginning in 2026. This is a moment of real momentum for our organization — and a rare chance to help shape a statewide movement that is transforming how Maine communities support young people. If you believe every young person deserves to feel like they matter, we want to hear from you.

About Maine Youth Thriving

Maine Youth Thriving (MyT, pronounced “mighty”), formerly the Maine Resilience Building Network (MRBN), is a statewide 501(c)(3) public health organization that helps communities promote research-informed resilience practices that foster positive experiences, relationships and environments, ensuring a flourishing future for all our young people.

MyT is dedicated to fostering resilient communities that prioritize the positive. We do this by building awareness, education, and partnership. Our team of experts provide healing- and equity-centered professional development, comprehensive programs, resources, and individualized consultations to youth-serving professionals, healthcare providers, educators, caregivers and community members.

Through these grassroots efforts, we aim to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of Maine’s future generations. By translating the latest research to provide awareness, education and support to communities and systems of care (including families, schools, healthcare facilities and youth-serving organizations), MyT can positively impact the conditions youth grow up in, fostering their resilience and increasing mental and physical wellbeing.

As a Board member, you won't just govern from a distance — you'll help steer strategy, open doors, and lend your voice to a cause with measurable, life-changing impact:

• Real impact: Belonging to your community is linked to a 65% lower likelihood of considering suicide and a 57% lower likelihood of experiencing depressive symptoms among Maine youth (ME Integrated Youth Health Survey)
• Real influence: Help shape strategy for a statewide movement with a track record of convening 100+ youth-serving leaders each year
• Real community: Join a passionate, collaborative community of directors, staff, and partners who bring the science of the positive to life across Maine

Who We're Looking For

MyT is committed to building a Board that reflects the full diversity of the communities we serve — across race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, geography, and lived experience. We especially welcome nominations from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC); LGBTQ+ individuals; people with disabilities; young adults and emerging leaders; and people with lived experience of the systems MyT works within (education, healthcare, child welfare, and community-based organizations).

We welcome candidates with a wide range of backgrounds and skills. We are especially interested in candidates who bring:

• Lived or professional experience with youth, family, or community resilience work
• Have experience in nonprofit finance, financial expertise
• Have experience fundraising expertise or fund development, including individuals connected to communities and corporations with a strong giving culture
• Connections to Maine's education, healthcare, or youth-serving systems
• A strong equity lens and a commitment to dismantling systemic barriers to youth well-being
• Passion for MyT's mission and a willingness to be a visible advocate for youth thriving in Maine

No single candidate needs to check every box — we are building a Board with a range of perspectives and strengths, and we encourage you to apply (or nominate someone) even if you have never served on a nonprofit board and there are other volunteer opportunities so please reach out.

Our Commitment to Equity

MyT's pursuit of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion is a moral imperative woven into our mission. We affirm the inherent dignity of every person we engage with, and we work to dismantle inequities within our own policies, programs, and services. We stand in solidarity with movements supporting historically marginalized communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities — and we operate on land held sacred by the Wabanaki Confederacy, whose stewardship of this land we honor. This same commitment guides how we build our Board.

Strategic Focus

MyT is committed to weaving the science of positive experiences and resilience into Maine's communities — especially during times of struggle and uncertainty. Our strategic goals are to:

• Elevate Youth Voices — Promote youth leadership and ensure that Maine youth's perspectives shape policies and programs.
• Care for Caring Adults — Support the well-being of the adults who nurture and guide young people.
• Convene a Statewide Movement for Systems Change — Transform the conditions in which youth live, learn, work, grow, and play so communities move from surviving to thriving.

Board Commitments

The MyT Board of Directors meets at least four times per year, two in-person gatherings and two virtual meetings. Board members are expected to:

• Attend board meetings regularly (a minimum of two meetings per year)
• Serve on at least one committee or working group
• Make a personal financial contribution according to individual ability
• Be familiar with and support the organization's mission, policies, and programs
