    About This Role

VFTA runs on NationBuilder — our website, supporter database, volunteer management, donor records, and email communications all live in one integrated platform. We need a volunteer who knows NationBuilder inside and out to own our digital infrastructure: keeping the site sharp and up to date, managing and customizing our theme, building new pages as our film projects evolve, and ensuring our CRM data is clean and actionable. This is a high-trust, high-impact role at the center of everything VFTA does online.

    What You'll Do

    • Own and manage VFTA's NationBuilder website — updates, new pages, content changes, and structural improvements as needed
    • Customize and maintain the site theme — CSS, Liquid templating, and layout adjustments to keep the design polished, on-brand, and mobile-responsive
    • Build and configure key page types: film landing pages, event RSVPs, volunteer signup forms, donation pages, petition pages, and screening request forms
    • Maintain the supporter database — tagging, segmenting, and cleaning contact records so that email campaigns and outreach are properly targeted
    • Set up and manage NationBuilder's communication tools — email blasts, automated follow-ups, and supporter pathways
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and liaise with NationBuilder support when needed
    • Coordinate with the social media manager and newsletter coordinator to ensure website and email content stays consistent and on schedule
    • Document site structure and processes so that VFTA is never dependent on a single person

    Skills & Experience

    • Hands-on NationBuilder experience — ideally for a nonprofit, advocacy group, or political campaign
    • Comfortable with NationBuilder's Liquid templating language and theme customization
    • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS — enough to edit templates and fix layout issues
    • Familiarity with NationBuilder's CRM features: tagging, filtering, people lists, and path builder
    • Experience building NationBuilder page types (events, donations, volunteer, petition) preferred
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently without hand-holding
    • Passion for animal welfare, environmental advocacy, or social justice a strong plus

    What You'll Gain

    • NationBuilder Administrator credit on VFTA's website, press materials, and organizational acknowledgments
    • Real-world NationBuilder expertise on a live, active nonprofit platform — one of the most in-demand skills for advocacy organizations, political campaigns, and mission-driven digital agencies
    • Full ownership of a public-facing NationBuilder site from day one — build your portfolio with documented before/after improvements, new features launched, and CRM growth metrics
    • Hands-on experience with the complete NationBuilder stack: website, CRM, email, donations, and volunteer management — the full picture most NationBuilder freelancers take years to accumulate
    • A letter of recommendation from VFTA's executive director, specifically detailing your NationBuilder contributions
    • Opportunity to grow into a long-term technology advisor role as VFTA expands its digital operations
    • Your name and link on VFTA's website as part of the core team — visible to the animal welfare and documentary film communities you're helping reach

    Your Impact

Every email that goes out, every donation that comes in, every volunteer who signs up, every supporter who learns about Billy or our films — it all flows through the platform you manage. This role is the digital backbone of VFTA's mission.
