    Burkina Faso – Gender Justice Advisor

    Duration of assignment: 12 months Start date: As soon as possible

    This is a 12-month assignment in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

    The assignment is part of the ‘Equality in Action’ Voluntary Cooperation Programme (VCP), which is being rolled out across around ten countries in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East over an eight-year period (2020–2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in inclusive, innovative and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam’s role is to support these organisations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalised people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls and vulnerable and marginalised people at the heart of all its work.

    Here is what your day-to-day work will look like:

    Working closely with members of the Oxfam team in Burkina Faso and partner organisations, your role will involve:

    • Disseminating and improving knowledge of national and international legislation and policies on gender equality and women’s rights;
    • Conducting gender analyses to identify inequalities and propose appropriate solutions;
    • Contributing to the assessment of the impacts of policies and programmes on gender equality;
    • Developing strategic plans to promote gender equality and gender justice;
    • Participating in change management and the adoption of new gender-related practices.

    For this role, you must:

    • Be a Canadian citizen or hold permanent residence in Canada;
    • Hold a university degree in law, political science, feminist studies, international development or any other relevant field;
    • Have two years’ experience in law and advocacy, project management, and gender justice or any other relevant field;
    • Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to work within a multicultural team; Be fluent in spoken and written French; English is desirable;
    • Be proficient in Microsoft Office, Skype, Teams and Zoom;
    • Experience in international development (an asset)
