    Description

    Volunteer Director of Marketing

    Position Title: Volunteer Director of Marketing

    Organization: Women of Color on the Move (WOCOTM) or Similar Nonprofit Organization

    Reports To: Executive Director / Board of Directors

    Location: Remote / Community-Based

    Position Type: Volunteer Leadership Role

    Position Summary

    The Volunteer Director of Marketing provides strategic leadership and direction for the organization’s marketing, branding, and communications efforts. This role is responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies that increase awareness, engagement, fundraising, and program participation.

    The Volunteer Director of Marketing works closely with leadership, program teams, and volunteers to promote the mission, programs, and community impact of the organization. This position plays a key role in expanding the organization’s visibility, strengthening its brand, and supporting outreach efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    Marketing Strategy & Planning

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.
    • Identify target audiences and create strategies to effectively reach them.
    • Establish marketing goals, timelines, and measurable outcomes.

    Brand Development

    • Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and visual identity across all platforms and materials.
    • Oversee the development of marketing materials including brochures, flyers, newsletters, and digital content.

    Digital Marketing & Social Media

    • Manage and oversee social media platforms, website content, and digital campaigns.
    • Develop content strategies that highlight the organization’s programs, community impact, and success stories.
    • Monitor engagement metrics and optimize campaigns accordingly.

    Community Outreach & Awareness

    • Support outreach campaigns to increase awareness of programs and services.
    • Promote community events, workshops, and initiatives.
    • Develop partnerships with media outlets and community organizations.

    Fundraising Support

    • Collaborate with fundraising teams to support marketing campaigns for donations, grants, and special events.
    • Assist in developing promotional materials for fundraising initiatives.

    Volunteer Leadership

    • Recruit, train, and coordinate marketing volunteers or interns when needed.
    • Delegate tasks related to content creation, social media, design, and outreach.

    Reporting & Evaluation

    • Track marketing performance metrics and provide periodic reports to leadership.
    • Evaluate campaign effectiveness and recommend improvements.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or related field preferred.

    Experience

    • 3–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, or brand management.
    • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or community programs is a plus.

    Skills

    • Strong strategic thinking and marketing planning abilities
    • Social media management and digital marketing skills
    • Content creation and storytelling
    • Graphic design and marketing tools familiarity (Canva, Adobe, etc.)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Leadership and team coordination skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with nonprofit marketing and community outreach.
    • Knowledge of social impact campaigns and advocacy communications.
    • Experience with marketing analytics tools.

    Time Commitment

    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week depending on organizational needs.
    • Participation in occasional meetings, events, or campaign planning sessions.
